How to file a mechanics lien in Alaska
Unpaid for work or materials on an Alaska construction project? A notice of completion can change the timetable. Use this guide to organize the filing questions, then check the cited law against your role and project.
AK · PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION CLAIMS
A notice of completion can change the timetable.
Without a recorded notice of completion, the Alaska lien filing statute generally allows 120 days after completing the construction contract or ceasing to furnish the covered contribution.
Notices to check before filing
If a completion notice is recorded, certain claimants must record a lien claim or notice of right to lien within 15 days. Prior notices and advance notification determine which rule applies.
Where and how to file in Alaska
Check the property records and the notice-of-right-to-lien history before preparing the recorded claim.
A filing mistake to avoid
Do not assume every Alaska claimant has the full 120 days after receiving a completion notice.
Prepare your project records
Save any notice of completion, its recording date, your notice of right to lien, and proof of delivery.
- Identify who hired you and whether the property is privately owned.
- Confirm your notice obligations and the event that starts each time limit.
- Verify the owner and property description using appropriate records.
- Reconcile invoices, payments, credits, and disputed amounts.
- Keep filing and service receipts, and calendar any enforcement deadline.
After the claim is filed
Filing does not guarantee payment or establish that a disputed claim is valid. Preserve the filed document and delivery evidence. If payment arrives, arrange the required release or satisfaction. If the balance remains unpaid, seek advice about enforcement before its separate deadline expires.

The Credit App offers administrative mechanics lien preparation and a recording attempt for $249. Confirm your state, project, notices, and timing before ordering. The service uses the information you provide; it does not determine legal sufficiency, verify ownership, or represent you in an enforcement action.
